Spinning Spider Creamery

At Spinning Spider Creamery, female goats are forced to become pregnant and give birth each year. The Creamery uses artificial insemination in addition to “natural mating” to control the animals’ reproductive systems. With a closer look, it is easy to see that their “natural mating” practices are far from natural.

They state that “When a doe comes in heat we note it on our spreadsheet, introduce her to the buck she’s slated for, watch him breed her over the course of usually 3 mountings, pull her away from the buck and put her back into the doe herd.” In addition, they collect the semen of their bucks, holding the semen in their tanks “as insurance” while also selling it. The USDA notes that goat semen is typically “induced” via “artificial vaginas” or an “electroejaculator.”

Once females have given birth to their young they are instantly separated from their newborns. Their babies are only allowed to access their mother’s colostrum through a bottle for the first 24 hours and are then transitioned to a pasteurized milk. All kids live in a “baby barn” and experience no contact with their mothers. By the time that all of the kids are weaned (at about 12 weeks old), Spinning Spider Creamery “sells off” any goats that they don’t plan on keeping.

The male goats (also known as “bucks”) are sold as “breeding stock” to buyers across the United States or Brazil. They’ve also been sold and shipped to Venezuela, Mexico, Nepal, Puerto Rico, and Trinidad. While Spinning Spider Creamery takes pride in this, countless investigations have documented the torturous, terrifying and frequently lethal journeys involved in so-called “livestock export.”

If bucks aren’t good enough “breeding stock” they’re sold to local 4-H program where they will be killed for their flesh. Spinning Spider creamery is very actively involved in 4-H and has posted countless photos showing off the udders of mothers who were forced to become pregnant in order to lactate.

When the female goats stop producing as much breastmilk as desired, they’re sold off at just 6 years to other farms or show herds. After being forcibly impregnated year after year, their goats are rewarded by being sold off and eventually slaughtered at just a fraction of their natural lifespan. In safe environments, goats can live to be over 20 years old.
