Mills River Creamery and Dairy

At Mills River Creamery, formerly located in Mills River, NC, newborn calves were traumatically stolen from their mothers only 1-2 days after birth; just like on factory farms. They were then confined 24 hours a day in lonely calf hutches for one month or more, during the time they most instinctively crave the nurture, love and security of a maternal presence. These highly inquisitive, social babies had no room to run or play, and no contact with other calves.

Because males aren’t profitable to the dairy industry, they are given away for people to do “whatever they want with them,” which commonly ended in being slaughtered for cheap beef. Year after year, female calves at Mills River were sexually violated and forcibly impregnated via artificial insemination.

After enduring a vicious cycle of repeated forced impregnation and theft of their babies, female cows are usually sold to other farms to be killed for meat when their bodies are no longer able to keep up with profitable milk production; just like on large commercial farms.
